Teaser Excerpt~Whiskey Nights

I have been really busy these past few weeks making sure Whiskey Nights is perfect for release. I continue to fall more and more for Jake. He’s such a flirt, but he is also so kind and loving. This story has made me smile and cry. Writing it brought about a lot of emotions, and as I reread it, it still pulls at my heart-strings. Jake and Beth are definitely a hot couple, but they also have things to work through so they can achieve their happily ever after. Sometimes it’s harder than it seems. Sometimes we are tested and question our own dreams if it means giving up the person we love.

Whiskey Nights br teaser CS

This book is a realistic love story like Sweet on Wilde, with real life issues couples face and hot bedroom {or lake} scenes that will heat up your night. I am excited to share this story with all of you and hope to have a release soon. I am looking at early fall. In the meantime, I am going to share a teaser excerpt. 😉

“I got it, Dave.” Jake winks at me. “I know how she likes it.”

I take in a deep breath trying not to picture just how I would like it with him and say, “Don’t ya wish you knew.”

“I’ve got an idea or two.”

I notice Dave shake his head and pat Jake on the shoulder. He leaves him to fix my drink.

“Here you go darlin’.”

“Jake…” I warn.

“You shoot me down every time, but one day you’ll realize I’m not all talk. Until then I’ll just have to fantasize about that brief kiss. Or you can give me another one to make the memory sweeter.” His face is inches from mine, and I feel my breath catch in my ribcage.

“You’re such a flirt. You wouldn’t know what else to do, if I gave you the chance.”

“Trust me, I’d know plenty.” I watch his jaw clench and his arms flex under his t-shirt, a piece of his tattoo peeking from underneath the sleeve. What I’d do to see the entire thing. His baby blues are staring at me intently, and I squirm involuntarily. He smiles at my reaction and I curse at myself. So much for not letting him get to me.

“You tell that to all the girls?” I counteract.

“Nope. Just you, babe. You should know by now that I’m not looking for a one-night stand with you. I’m not that kinda guy.”

“Oh yeah? What are you looking for?” My own judgments about him clear in my question.

“More.”

One word. That’s all it takes to knock the air out of me. Jake and I have spent more time teasing each other then actually getting to know each other. How does he know he wants more? And how does he know he wants it with me? So much for trying to keep myself together! My entire body is betraying my emotions right now, and I have the urge to pull him in and kiss him. Experience a real kiss with him, but instead I stay silent.

“Enjoy that drink,” he says before walking down the bar to the customer who was calling out his name.

Imperfect Past

Grayson

Greenville, South Carolina

I’m cold. I feel my body shiver and try to pull the blanket over me. Logan fights me with a tug-o-war battle with the blanket. I open my eyes, blinking softly. I feel the sun peek in. It must be time to wake up already. “Logan, wake up! We gotta get ready for school,” I say, nudging him on the shoulder. He turns over and gives me his back.

“Hmm…leave me alone, Grayson,” he growls at me. It’s the same thing every morning. I give him five more minutes while I get dressed for school. It’s a colder morning today, so I dress quickly to warm up.

“Logan! Get up. I gave you a few more minutes. We’re gonna to be late and you know Miss Jackie will get mad if we are. We can’t disappoint her. I also need to put the tent away before we go.”

Miss Jackie is my fourth grade teacher. She’s really nice and always making sure Logan and I are safe and cared for.

We slept out in the tent tonight so we won’t get in mom’s way. Her new husband is mean. The other night he tried to beat Logan for sneaking in through the window and I got in the middle to protect him. My ribs still hurt. He’s a real asshole.

“Camping was fun! Can we do it again?” Logan asks excitedly. He’s only eight so he doesn’t quite understand the reason behind our campout although he’s witnessed a lot of wrong behavior with our mom for his young age.

“Sure, buddy. Whenever you want, but only if you promise to wake up on time! We’re gonna be late.”

“Scouts honor!” he salutes me and I laugh. His innocence always makes me smile. I may only be ten years old, but I’ve got the temper of a drunken, old man. I’ve had to develop this attitude to keep Logan and myself safe from all of the men mom brings home and marries.

Somehow, we’re always in the way. She’s starting to become a real slut. She does whatever they want and is usually drunk or worse. We try to stay out of the house, but it’s difficult sometimes. We want to take a shower and sleep on a bed. Thank goodness Miss Jackie gave us this tent and a sleeping bag to share. I took the blanket from our house. No one will notice.

“Let’s go.” I guide Logan out of the forest and towards the main road. Thankfully our school is only a mile away. I notice Logan tremble. Fall is really kicking in. “Are you cold?”

“A little,” he says, wrapping his arms around himself.

“Here. Put this on.” I give him my jacket.

“Thanks,” he says gratefully and puts it on. “Won’t you be cold, though?”

“Nah. I’ve got thick skin to keep me warm.” He laughs at my comment.

“We have the same skin!” he says pulling on my skin and his, showing me that it’s the same exact thing. His eyes sparkle with delight. To be eight years old and oblivious to reality.

We make it to school ten minutes late. I rush Logan to his class and run to mine. I try to sneak in and take my seat, but Miss Jackie catches my eye.

“Grayson. Are you late again?” she asks, tight-lipped. I just nod, embarrassed to be called out in front of all my friends. “Are you okay?”

“Yes, ma’am. Sorry.”

“Try to be on time tomorrow.” She lets a smile slip and I relax into my chair. Thank god. I wish I had a mom like Miss Jackie instead of the crappy one we have at home. She would always take care of us and never let us sleep outside alone. Maybe one day I’ll meet a nice girl like her.

Saying goodbye to characters~The writer’s hangover

I have realized, after book #4, that every time I finish writing a story I get in some kind of funk. I don’t think I’ve really focused on it before now, but I become a real loner. It’s letting go of those characters you have spent weeks, or months, with developing their story so honestly that gets to me. It’s like a break up, kinda. Or sending your kids off to their first day of kindergarten. Who said fictional characters aren’t real companions?

I feel lost without them and I struggle to write about new ones, or in my case characters I created months ago. I can’t seem to find my way to those stories. It’s almost as if I need closure and that comes once I publish and my book is available to readers. I know other authors go through this and it makes me feel a little better that I’m not crazy.

I am, however, very excited to share Parker and Savannah with you all! I think you’ll all really love their story. The cover reveal was this week and I am beyond grateful for all the support and love I received from bloggers, authors and readers. I joke with my betas and tell them this is my cute, sappy novel {and it is} but I love how the story played out. I’m used to writing more dramatic and emotional books, but this was a nice change {and Chase Rice is my muse! Can’t complain}. My characters were stubborn, but they wanted me to stay true to their story, and I did just that.

So although I’m going through a writing hangover, author’s version of book hangover, I cannot wait for all of you to read this book and fall in love with this southern romance.

On other news, my one year anniversary as a published author is coming up and Mia and Grayson may just visit us. 😉 I have a couple of things up my sleeve that I think you’ll enjoy.

Sweet on Wilde Cover Reveal

I am so grateful for having the opportunity to live out my dream over and over again as I continue to write more stories for readers to enjoy. I recently came across an old “Notes” I did on Facebook back in 2009—”25 Random Things About Me.” You know, when these things were cool to do. I want to share two things I wrote there.

Number 1 said ” I love writing. It’s the easiest way for me to express myself.” This could not be more true. Ever since I was a teen, writing was what kept me sane. It brought peace and balance into my life. To be able to do that now and share it with the world is amazing.

Number 5 said “I want to publish a book at some point in my life.” Now, I can’t remember if I wrote this before or after a specific scene was playing in my mind and I decided to write it, later thinking it could be a novel. Of course, I thought I had lost it. Am I happy I didn’t give up that dream. It’s been a long road with many lessons, but the best choice I made was to reopen that document from 2009 and write a book.

Now I’m nearing my one year anniversary of my first novel, Perfectly Imperfect, and I’ve just revealed today my cover for me fourth novel. What a feeling. I’m not sure I can describe it in words.

Here is the beauty that will hold Sweet on Wilde, my romantic and humorous novel that I adore.

I just want to stare at it. Every cover I’ve had so far describes the story perfectly, and this is no different. It portrays Savannah and Parker’s relationship just how it is; sweet, romantic, and peaceful.

Wicked Wednesday Recommendation ~ One Last Kiss by Susan Ward

It’s been very busy for me lately getting ready for the release of Restoring Us, but I have managed to get some reading in. Today’s Wicked Wednesday recommendation is by and author I admire. Susan Ward has a way with words and getting deep into my soul to feel so many emotions. It was no different with One Last Kiss. This book is beautifully written with characters who have suffered their own challenges in life.

It was a pleasure to read more about these characters as they were introduced to me in Susan’s other book, The Girl on the Half Shell. I loved to see the connections now that I hadn’t quite figured out yet and reading Linda and Jack’s story. I found myself rooting for them and their love throughout the entire book.

Linda is a young woman set on figuring out more about her father when she runs into Jack, the hot, infamous 60s rock star. The relationship built between these two is honest, sweet, and emotional. The chemistry between the two characters is wonderfully developed, and I felt the emotions they were living. I truly enjoyed seeing this side of Linda and wondering what happens in her life to get her to where she is in The Girl on the Half Shell. And Jack, what can I say? He’s lost loved ones, and suffered, but he is so lovable and kind. His feelings for Linda are obvious, and you begin to see how she brings him out of that dark part of his life and see him smile freely again. His drunken comments added some laughs into the story, building a perfect balance.

I look forward to reading more of this series, and learning what happens to this characters. After all, it is an affair without end.

unScripted by Christy Pastore

Ronan is a Keeper

Happy release day to Christy Pastore!!! I am so excited for her new novel, unScripted. Christy has become a dear friend of mine in the past few months, and I cannot be happier for her. Congratulations! Christy also has one hot muse for Ronan. Here, let me give you a visual.

ronan

Hot right?! Meet Ronan! I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book. Below you will find my review!

You can one-clicked unScripted here!

http://www.amazon.com/Unscripted-Scripted-Book-Christy-Pastore-ebook/dp/B00QCTT4JQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1418124663&sr=8-1&keywords=unscripted+christy+pastore

Where do I begin? I’m so grateful I received an ARC for this book. I’ve been anticipating its release for a long time. Ronan Connolly. Need I say more? If you haven’t heard of him yet, let me introduce you. Hollywood’s Irish heartthrob. The man is sexy. He will make you swoon.

Unscripted follows Holliday and Ronan’s story. When they first meet Holliday is unsure of Ronan’s true intentions, but unable to deny her attraction, she gives into the lust she feels. Who wouldn’t, right? Holliday is a character I instantly loved. She’s smart, confident, and strong. Despite having lived a terrible experience, she has fought to regain her life and works each day towards becoming stronger.

Ronan doesn’t date. He’s very clear about that. He’s had his own share of broken relationships, but never been in love. Seeing the love he has for his daughters is amazing. A true father despite his role in Hollywood, it wins you over. It gives you some insight to why he is so protective of Holliday, and affected by her story. He definitely has the caretaker quality in him.

I love the honesty between these two characters. Understandably so, Holliday is a bit hesitant to open up about certain things in her past. When she does, Ronan’s support takes your breath away. He wants nothing more than to protect her and rid her of the past that harmed her. Reading the twist and turns this book took made me gasp in surprise at times. I did not see some things coming. Love how the mystery is revealed little by little, always revealing new layers of the characters.

The secondary characters were beautifully developed as well. Their roles in Holliday and Ronan’s lives intrigued me. It was interesting to see certain connections between the two. I also adored Holliday’s relationship with her sister and brother in law. It showed true family bonds.

This story screams sexy, passion, and love. I truly enjoyed how Pastore combined the lust filled desires of the characters with their deeper feelings for one another. Seeing both characters process those feelings and opening up to them was a true pleasure. Although it is part of a series, it doesn’t leave you with a jaw-dropping cliffhanger, which is nice. You get a full story, but you’ll definitely want more when you finish. I can’t wait to see how this story continues and the development of Ronan and Holliday’s relationship. I sense some more twist and turns in the future.
